Chaim V'Chessed, pure sayings on Biblical verses and the legends of the Sages and midrashim by Rabbi Chaim Chaike son of Rabbi Shmuel of Amdur, Warsaw 1890. [Bound with Chiddushei Maharam Zvi on tractate Chulin part two, by Rabbi Moshe Zvi, Av Beit Din of Siedlce, Warsaw, 1890]. On the title page of both books and on other leaves are ownership stamps of the Rebbe Rabbi Yisrael Shapira of Grodzisk.
Rabbi Yisrael Shapira of Grodzisk [1874-1941]. Grandson of the Rebbes Rabbi Elimelech Shapira of Grodzisk and Rabbi Yitzchak Friedman of Bohush. He grew up with and was educated by them after he was orphaned at a young age. Following his grandfather's death, in 1892, he was appointed as his successor as Rebbe of Grodzisk, at the age of only 18. During the First World War he moved with his court to Warsaw, and during the Holocaust he was part of the leadership of the Warsaw Ghetto. Murdered in Treblinka.
