Large Poster, Israeli Government Calling for the Release of Prisoners of Zion in Romania. Israel, 1954
Official poster from the information bureau [מנהל ההסברה] at the Prime Minister's Office [Hebrew]: "Prisoners of Zion in Romania shall be released, stated the Prime Minister on 22 Iyyar, 1954 - 25/5/54. The government of Israel is shocked to hear about the trials and the devastating verdicts handed down to people at the forefront of Jewish leadership in Romania and leadership of the Zionist movement in said country ..."
In the early 1950s Romania conducted criminal trials for many of the central Zionist activists in the country, at which they were sentenced lengthy terms of imprisonment with the claim that they are agents of American imperialism.
