Siftei Yeshenim, Amsterdam, 1680. First Hebrew Bibliographic Work

Siftei Yeshenim - names of sefarim and their authors, with the content of the sefarim and the places and years of print, also including manuscripts that were never printed, by Rabbi Shabtai Meshorrer Bass. Amsterdam, 1680. First edition. First Hebrew bibliographic work.

The renowned author is also the author of Siftei Chachamim on Rash"i's commentary. He was a well-known expert on sifrei kodesh who traveled extensively to search for sefarim. This sefer received many approbations and an interesting foreword by the author about its importance and purpose.

The sefer includes about 2000 names of sefarim, both those that had been printed and those that still remained in manuscript. The author arranged the sefarim by topic and subtopic and even sub-subtopic - a division he created. He included bibliographic details for each sefer.
