Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv [1910-2012] was born in Shavel, Lithuania, as an only son to his parents after 17 years of marriage. He immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1924 with his parents, settling in the Meah Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem. He served as an adjudicator in the rabbinate's Beit Din HaGadol, and was primarily known for his wondrous diligence starting from his earliest days. He eventually became the leading adjudicator of halachah.
