WILHELM BURGDORF
(1895-1945) German general and commanding staff officer in the German Army. Burgdorf served as a Chief Adjutant to Adolf Hitler and played a main role in the forced suicide of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. He committed suicide in the Fuhrerbunker alongside Hitler and other officials at the conclusion of the Battle of Berlin. Late war-date T.L.S., 1p., legal folio, Berlin, Germany. Dec. 8, 1944, to a Mr. Brand thanking him for his military service and informing him that he will receive recognition soon. In part: '...I believe I can tell you that in the near future you will receive the award you deserve and that the Fuhrer's full appreciation will be expressed when you leave later...' Burgdorf signs the conclusion in black ink. Two file holes at left margin, else fine condition.
